Dance & Diversity: Free Family Day Event at Saanich Commonwealth Place!

Celebrate Family Day 2026: Free Community Dance Along, an afternoon of music, dancing, complimentary food, kids’ activities, and community connection. Our featured groups will take you on a journey through cultural dances from here and around the world, sharing their traditions and inviting you to participate. Dance along, learn, or simply watch and enjoy! This event has reached capacity in previous years, we recommend that you RSVP to save your spot. We look forward to dancing with you!

We are honoured to open the Dance Along with a prayer by Elder THE-LA-ME-YÉ Shirley Alphonse, from the Hul’q’umi’num People of Cowichan Nation and a spiritual leader with T’Sou-ke Nation.

Following the opening prayer, the celebration continues with drumming, song, and dance from five cultural groups. Each group will perform for approximately five minutes, then invite everyone to join in, learn, and dance along!

Food Presenters

Complimentary food and snacks will be available while supplies last, thanks to our generous community partners.

Enjoy curry from Gurdwara Sahib Khalsa Diwan Society Sikh Temple, perogies from the Ukrainian-Canadian Cultural Society of Vancouver Island, and freshly made bannock on site from The Bannock Room Food Truck, hosted by the VicPD EDIA Committee.

Accessibility Information

The Garry Oak Gymnasium is fully accessible.

The venue has smooth, accessible entrances from parking, transit, and the main road, including accessible parking and a HandyDART drop-off zone. The space is wheelchair accessible throughout, with seating, open floor space, and room for mobility devices.

DAC Dance Along

Join the Greater Victoria Police Diversity Advisory Committee for a free, family-friendly event celebrating art, culture, and diversity. We will celebrate four cultural dances from Victoria and around the world. Gather in Saanich Commonwealth Place - Garry Oak Room from 12:30-2:30.

Our featured groups will take you on a journey, demonstrating and teaching their dances, sharing a part of their heritage, and inviting you to participate. Dance and learn or just watch and enjoy. Featuring:

  • Unity Dancers

  • Rogers/Glanford Drumming Group

  • Bollywood Beats Shangra Dancers

  • Veselka Ukrainian Dancers

Complementary snacks will be offered from the Ukrainian-Canadian Cultural Society, Fig, and the Topaz Street SIkh Gurdwara.
